A perfect indulgence holiday for the whole family includes perfect, tasty, healthy and high-quality food, and regional products taste best. At Smiley, our delicious gourmet menu offers the ultimate in fresh, regional produce with a natural taste, which we conjure for you in our delicious menu, from breakfast to lunch and dinner.
Local products and predominantly Austrian juices and wines are on the menu at the Smiley Hotel every day. With your meals, you can enjoy our own clear spring water from the surrounding mountains and mineral water. We also offer freshly pressed fruit juices all day long.
For breakfast (7:30 am to 10 am) we have a wholefood corner with tasty, freshly prepared scrambled egg with local farm-fresh eggs, plus a rich selection of fresh bread and crispy pastries. You will find delicious home-made jams, natural honey, farm-fresh yoghurt, and locally produced fresh fruits, cheese and butter. Ham and sausage specialities from the local butcher, various muesli mixes, dried fruit, breakfast cakes and Aunt Luise’s delicious butter plait ensure a good start to the day.
For lunch (12 noon to 1:30 pm) our lovely cook Steffi serves regional specialities. For lunch-time snack, you can choose from fresh salads, a wide selection of fruit, pastries, soup and freshly prepared hot dishes as well as traditional and simple home cooking. And the smell of freshly baked cake wafting through the hotel means that Aunt Luise is preparing the afternoon snack with home-made pastries made according to traditional Carinthian recipes.
From 3 pm: It’s ice cream time! Kids can choose from a selection of ice cream and ices, after which Aunt Luise’s pastries and a mixed, hearty Carinthian snack are available (from 3:30 to 5 pm).
From 5:45 to 7:45 our little guests can enjoy the children’s buffet. This children’s buffet contains the favourite dishes of your little ones. Of course parents can also nibble from the children’s buffet.
In the evening, we spoil you and your family with a 3 to 4-course dinner menu with Carinthian and Italian delicacies conjured up by our hotel chef, Mario Brandstätter. Seasonal specialities such as wild garlic in spring, mushrooms and blueberries in summer, game in autumn and various types of cabbage in winter, plus regional desserts, have a fixed place on our dinner menus.
You can also choose daily from a selection of vegetarian dishes. Our mixed buffet, a barbecue evening, chocolate fountain, cheese board and a large selection of soups round off our gourmet indulgence programme. We are happy to take special food requests for allergy sufferers into account.
For our smaller guests
At the Hipp Buffet our baby guests will find a rich selection of follow-on and bottle food, bottled milk, milk and cocoa. Probiotic milk, yoghurt with cereals, pureed vegetables, fruit and meat, are freshly and gently prepared according to your instructions with the greatest care.
The drinks bar is open from 7 am to 10:30 pm. Here you can find non-alcoholic drinks from the drinks counter, with eight different soft drinks, fruit juices and two sugar-free fruit juices to quench your thirst. You can also enjoy our coffee specialities such as Latte Macchiato and Cappuccino, tea and cocoa.
Doris, the ‘Good Spirit’ of our hotel bakes fresh bread for you every morning, with a variety of delicious experiments on our buffet table for you to taste. Bon Appetit!
Autumn experience in Smiley’s riverside chalet
Unusual, particularly rustic, yet upmarket top-of-the-range furnishings.
Our riverside chalet consists of two residential units, each on one level, with an ideal 100 m² living space. Each room is unique with distinct and exclusive features of the local art scene. In each unit you will find: A living room with open fireplace, satellite TV, a fully equipped kitchen with dining area, a bathroom with shower and double washbasins made of petrified wood, separate toilet units and three themed sleeping areas. These special bedrooms are composed of two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom, with a bunk bed. The chalet has partial underfloor, bio-central heating and a terrace or balcony with views of the river, meadow and forest. Laundry service, hotel service and Wi-Fi are included.

Family adventure days and the artists’ town of Gmünd
Explore the colourful woods, be inspired by the beauty of the landscape and enjoy the clear air and extensive view. In order to bring our region closer to you, we have put together a special offer to allow you to experience the diversity of our region. On Mondays you can take part in a guided adventure hike through the “Valley of the falling waters”. On Wednesdays you will visit the Energy Experience Trail, learn more about the “Miracle of Life” and walk across the longest suspension bridge in the Alps. A historical guided tour through the artists’ town of Gmünd will take you on a journey from the past to the present.
At the Smiley Hotel you will find: A large outdoor area with adventure-themed playground, nature playground, relaxation garden and animals to pet. Unique indoor playground on 3 floors, 10 areas for children only, (open for use in any weather) with children’s castle and giant slide, soft play area, cinema, youth room, the dungeon and much more. PURE – GENUINE – ACTIVE package
Experience the magnificent alpine landscape of the Malta Valley with a brisk stroll through the colourful autumn. From the summit hike with a National Park Ranger to the Stubeck with a stop at the Leonhard Hut, followed by a visit to the archery centre. Prove your marksmanship in the Malta Valley 3D archery course, which covers four hectares and is 1200m long. The course leads through a beautiful and authentic flat area of forest. Then cycle along arguably the most beautiful cycle path in Carinthia along the Malta River to the toll station at the end of the Malta Valley.
